According to a recent survey, Salvadorans are not in support of the government’s decision to make bitcoin a legal tender in the country, many are clueless about what the digital currency is and have expressed their distrust in the project.
There has been a lot of arguments concerning the controversial bitcoin law in El Salvador, and study has shown that most Salvadorans have been against the bill since it’s inception, which also led to protests in the country.
A survey done by the Central American University, just 5 days before the bill was passed, showed that a high percentage of the citizens of El Salvador are not in support of the new development.
According to the survey done, 7 out of 10 people in the country expressed their desire for the bill to be revoked.
Close to 68% percent of Salvadorans are not in support of Bitcoin being used as a legal tender in the country, and only one third of them agree to some extent.
However, the survey showed 9 out of 10 citizens do not clearly understand what bitcoin is, and 8 out of 10 gave little or no credence to it’s use.
The poll also showed that the citizens believe that the bill would make the prices of groceries go up, and will only benefit a certain class of people in the country.
The government didn’t give an immediate response to the survey.Meanwhile, the president of El Salvador believes that the new development will go a long way in boosting the economy of the country, and will make El Salvador less reliant on the current legal tender, which is the U.S dollar.
What do you think about the Bitcoin Law in El Salvador, will it eventually boost the country’s economy?
